Valparaiso - Chile
The port town of Valparaiso is a colourful, hilly town with wall murals literally everywhere. Easy to walk around, it has a mixture of building styles some beautiful whilst others, not so nice! A walk through the local market is a visual treat seeing the different cheap foods whilst noticing the gorgeous old building it’s set in. In the centre of town there was Melbourne Café, that made very good coffee – the owners lived in Melbourne for a while; so, learnt how to make great coffee, even the flat white! There is a tree covered little park in the town which offers a respite from the sun and time for your feet to recover before heading off on your adventure once more.
We stayed in the lovely boutique hotel, Casa Higueras high on the hill with a great view. The hotel has a pool with a grotto spa, restaurant offering great food, and lounge area perfect for afternoon tea. You can have a romantic dinner on the bottom terrace, which is set up for only 2 couples and requires reservation. Breakfast on the top terrace is a very pleasant way to start the day. The bedrooms are adequate, comfortable & clean.
